CORE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Lead and oversee the cross-functional management of information technology and execution of digital technology initiatives, in particular the development, implementation, and maintenance of Barloworld Equipment applications, infrastructure, and support systems to ensure they align with the business objectives and requirements.

KEY OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT

• Develop and implement strategic plans for Barloworld Equipment’s infrastructure (including but not limited to networks, servers, storage, databases, cloud services) and applications, in alignment with business objectives and growth strategies
• Responsible for the delivery and execution of the integrated IT and digital strategy with specific focus on agile application development and infrastructure services.
• Provide input to the IT Disaster Recovery Strategy for Barloworld Equipment
• Develop, execute and oversee procedures, policies and related training plans for the applications and infrastructure domains.
• Keep abreast of new technologies and advise business of benefits and risks
• Drives and ensures continuous-improvement programmes across the IT organisation
OPERATIONS AND IT MANAGEMENT

Infrastructure

• Lead and manage the design, implementation, and management of secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure solutions to meet the Barloworld Equipment operational needs
• Manage the implementation of IT Infrastructure projects
• Manage and establish priorities for maintenance, design, development and analysis of entire infrastructure systems inclusive of LANs, WANs, internet, and wireless implementations
• Research and recommend changes in services, products, protocols and standards to support development efforts and infrastructure procurement
• Define software and hardware standards in collaboration with stakeholders and owners
• Test server performance plus provide network presentation statistics
• Report and prepare strategies to maintain server infrastructure
• Oversee upgrades of servers, hardware and related operating systems and firmware.
• Manage local area networks, overseeing the installation and maintenance of network equipment
• Ensure apt security levels and controls on network, workstations, infrastructure and servers are implemented and maintained as directed by the Office of the Group CISO.

Applications

• Analyse business operations and the Barloworld Equipment’s computer systems and determine which software applications could improve efficiency
• Research, procure and manage software applications that will contribute to the success of Barloworld Equipment
• Manage the installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining of those applications as and where necessary
• Oversee upgrades of applications

• Monitor the roll-out of new software applications to ensure there are no problems
• Plan and advise on continuous service improvements for IT applications
• Proactively advise business where IT software leases expires or migration to new technologies are required
• Ensure effective and agile application development practices are embedded throughout, including where external parties are utilised for application development services.
• Ensure and maintain efficient application support structures.

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS
• Partners with the Executive: Digital in providing the technology vision of Barloworld Equipment.
• Identify and develop strategic relationships with internal clients
• Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communication between the IT support organisation and the user community (internal and external).
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers across the IT value chain
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand technology requirements and provide infrastructure and application solutions that support Barloworld Equipment’s current and future needs

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
• Provide input into budgeting process, considering IT infrastructure and application upgrades.
• Develop and manage the infrastructure and applications budget, ensuring cost-effective utilisation of resources and alignment with strategic objectives
• Regularly reviews IT costs and cost structures for IT infrastructure and application services and products to ensure value add and value uplift to the organisation.

HUMAN RESOURCES AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
• Provide appropriate supervision to direct reports and provide relevant mentoring and coaching
• Talent manage direct reports, including their career development
• Manage the performance of direct reports, ensuring agreement of annual goals, performance measurement against agreed goals and the management of non-performance
• Promote a culture of high performance

GOVERNANCE, RISK AND REPORTING
• Ensure compliance with all IT relevant regulation and legislation
• Ensure sound IT controls and processes in place to manage and mitigate IT risks as applicable to the Barloworld Equipment infrastructure and applications

Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualification:
Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology (IT/)/Information Systems or related field
• ITIL certification
• Postgraduate Degree in Information Technology (IT)/Information Systems/ Business Management or any equivalent degree

Advantageous:

• Postgraduate Degree in Business Management
• Certification on latest Barloworld Equipment technologies

Minimum Experience:
Essential:

• Eight to Ten years IT experience in a similar environment and at least three years at an executive level
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams or projects
• Experience in influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders

Minimum Required Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of latest digital technologies, infrastructure (systems, networks, cloud hosting etc) and application thereof
• In depth knowledge and understanding of various IT applications and systems knowledge (coding and programing, Microsoft 365, server management, SQL
• Sound knowledge of Platform applications that enables seamless, employee, customer experience
• Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype
• Thorough understanding of ITIL to assist with driving excellence in IT service delivery
